GP1 visits France; DC’ leader Stwerka dominant in pre-event testing

This Sunday, the R4S GP1 Series will hold it’s first race event on French soil at the seventh event of the 2017-I season. It will be a return of the series to the well-known Paul Ricard track, as the 2016 pre-season test took place at the ‘High Tech Test Track’ near Le Castellet.

After a rather turbulent weekend at the Red Bull Ring two weeks ago things look to have settled down a bit, but major shake-ups could always appear on race day. Up to yet the leading driver Marc Stwerka seems to be uncatchable once again, dominating pre-event testing 1.4 seconds ahead of surprising second Phillip Volland. From P3 on however, the grid looks packed, as all drivers which attended at testing so far are within a two-second window, a crucial thing to be in at a track where slipstreaming is ever so important.

Speaking about slipstream, rumours have emerged this week that Briton Myles Dixon will return to GP1 with SlipStream Racing. The Touring Car racer will be a perfect addition to the grid, as he showed how strong he is in unknown cars at the 2016 Race4Speed F3 Race of Macau. Another debutant will hit the track with Klebaa Racing, German Mike Grothaus.

Unnamed’s Race Team and the other of the six-car squad, led by Brazilian Lucas Murno, weren’t really present in testing so far, but they will be quick at any track as we’ve seen in the past.

We are looking forward to another exciting event!
